RunThrough Trails – Berchtesgaden Alpine Adventure
Set in the breathtaking Bavarian Alps, our Berchtesgaden Alpine Adventure brings runners into one of Germany’s most dramatic and inspiring mountain landscapes. Beginning in the charming alpine town of Berchtesgaden, the course leads participants deep into a region shaped by ancient glaciers, crystal-clear rivers and towering limestone peaks. The trails flow through lush valleys and climb towards panoramic viewpoints overlooking the border between Germany and Austria, creating an unforgettable experience from the very first kilometre.
Along the way, runners will encounter some of the area’s most iconic natural wonders. The route passes the mysterious ice caves with their shimmering frozen formations, continues beside cascading waterfalls hidden among the forest, and opens up to sweeping alpine vistas that capture the true essence of this unique region. Every section of the course offers something special — a mix of technical terrain, peaceful woodland, exposed ridgelines and breathtaking scenery that showcases Berchtesgaden at its finest.
The 2026 edition features three race distances, each designed to offer a meaningful challenge for different levels of trail runners. The 42 km marathon route presents a significant test with substantial elevation gain, ideal for experienced trail athletes seeking a demanding mountain challenge. The 26 km course offers a balanced and immersive experience through the region’s most striking landscapes, while the 12 km route provides an enjoyable introduction to trail running in the Alps, perfectly suited to runners of all abilities.
Bringing Run Through Trails to Germany marks a major step in our European expansion, and Berchtesgaden stands out as one of the most exceptional destinations on our calendar. ITRA and UTMB Indexes are tools for ranking athletes based on their performance level. The performance index can be used to compare the level of different trail runners around the world and is built on a scale up to a maximum of 1000 points.
